Bookish Families

I always find it interesting to see what got my fellow bloggers so into books that they are willing to dedicate this much time and money into maintaining a blog. I've done previous questions about when you started blogging or what your career/major is, but today I'm interested to see if anyone in your family is a bookworm!

Right here is Mama-Blogger (known by her friends as "Lisa,") along with myself, meeting Stan Shunpike at Universal Orlando. Can you tell were I got my nerd blood from?

Mama-Blogger was an English major in college where she developed an undying love for American classics, Shakespeare, and anything having to do with Henry VIII and matrimonial decapitation. I don't think my mother has had a prouder day in her life as when I came home in seventh grade, recently cast as Boy in Henry V, and asked her to rehearse my monologues.

Though she was a lawyer for many years, she returned to her love of books and became a local librarian when I was in middle school. Many-a-day I spent after school sorting donations, shelving returns, or helping the children's librarian not scare the kids (seriously, she scared me!).

And the familial love of books isn't just the two of us. My mom always jokes that my grandma will read anything including the back of a shampoo bottle. But it's true! You put any book in her hand and she'll have it done by nightfall.

So who was it that got you into books? If not a family member, was it a teacher or mentor? Comment below!

  1. Nobody in my family reads, so I honestly think it was Stephen King who got me into reading. I read a Stephen King book when I was a kid, and I immediately wanted more and more horror stories.

  2. Being held back in Kindergarten for not being able to read, is what lit the fire for me. None of my siblings, or parents are readers. My kids and and 2 of my nephews and 2 neice are.
